Ground Waves was actually six years in the making.
     In 1994, Jude, and life partner Earle Thomlinson, conceived and operated Ground Waves as a rural home-based business creating and selling (her) handcrafted cushions and vests and (his)
Ground Waves business card, circa 1994handcarved wooden signs and garden sculpture. A wordsmith by profession, Earle coined the name Ground Waves, chosen in part because of the literal meaning but mostly because the words encapsulated the elements of their riverside lifestyle, and the organic nature of their craftwork – earth and water.
     In 1995 Jude was employed by local manufacturer

So the turn of the century and a life changing turn of events converged – and Ground Waves was resurrected. The business concept was reviewed and refined and the gals were ready to go. But they needed to find a home first – and fast!
     Just prior to the demise of Heritage Silversmiths, the Code Felt factory had closed. Established in the 1880′s, the Code’s Custom Mill, and later as the Tay Knitting Mill, processed yarn and manufactured knitted products such as socks, gloves, and sweaters. In 1899, Mr. T. A. Code introduced a felt-making process and the mill was renamed Code Felt.
     The Code Mill stood at the corner of Herriott and Wilson Streets in the heart of Perth, and boasted one of the prettiest views in town overlooking Stewart Park and the Tay River. The firm Commonwealth Historic Resource Management, under the direction of principal John Stewart, was in the process of restoring the old mill and in doing so creating several new retail and office spaces.

The logo was created by our good friend and talented artist, Annie Dalton.
     At the core of the image is the armillary sundial, indicative of the world (products from near and far), the solar system (earth, seasons, mystical), and direction (leading the way).
     Containing the sundial within another circle reinforces our nurturing feminine nature (the Moon influence again) – and our belief that all things are interconnected.
     We also believe colour makes the world go round (that and lots of love and energy)! Our corporate colours were chosen from a long list of favourites – green, purple and copper. They worked well together, and best represented the essence of Ground Waves.
