TIMELY TIP

Steps to a Deluxe Home Pedicure

by Jacqui MacNeil, Escents CEO & Founder.

It all starts with the feet. If my feet are fresh, my mind follows.

Remove existing nail polish by using cotton dipped in natural nail polish remover.

Soak feet for 10-15 minutes in warm water containing Oasis Bath and Foot Salts.

While wet, apply a generous amount of Revitalizing Foot Scrub all over feet, heels and legs to remove dead skin; cooling Eucalyptus and Peppermint invigorates and restores.

Smoothen/scrape clean feet with a foot file or a pumice stone.

Rinse and dry feet.

Trim toe nails and push back cuticles.

Massage feet and legs with Revitalizing Foot & Leg Lotion, then wrap feet with moisturizing socks for at least 15 minutes.

Put onto feet, toe separators or sandals with toe separators.

Apply coloured nail polish to match mood; put clear top coat polish on top to secure colour and let dry for 20 minutes.

Then put on those dancing shoes and boogie!

Levon Helm, formerly of The Band, has just released Electric Dirt, a rootsy and sometimes rockin’ romp through the farmland, hills and bayous of America. For me, the soulful, gospel-like When I Go Away is a stand out! An amazing labour of love from Levon at 69 following his recovery from throat cancer.

Retired, yes, but never too old to rock!
British director Stephen Walker’s 2007 documentary Young @ Heart tells the story of a New England senior citizen’s chorus that belts out its own renditions of contemporary songs by the likes of Radiohead, The Clash, and David Bowie. The fact that the chorus’s members are willing to tackle such unfamiliar and daunting material attests to the spirit of adventure that is a crucial spur to their shared bonhomie.
The movie offers an encouraging vision of old age in which the depression commonly associated with decrepitude is held at bay by music making, camaraderie and a sense of humour. Good medicine indeed!
According to Hanni, it’s a heartwarming, hilarious, and poignant movie – watch it and weep – for joy.

If you enjoy hiking and nature’s wondrous beauty, both Judy & Karen recommend a visit to Rock Dunder.
Rock Dunder is a granitic exposure situated in the UNESCO-protected Thousand Islands Frontenac Biosphere Reserve.
Enjoy breathtaking views from the summit which rises to a height of 176 metres (577 feet), 77 metres (253 feet) above the water level of Morton Bay.
Jill Dunkley, The Yoga Connection
www.theyogaconnectionperth.org

A Strong Body Makes For Happier Gardening!
It’s important to prepare for gardening by practicing yoga poses which involve shoulders, chest, low back, hips and knees as well as the abdominal core. This practice will take about 20 minutes or so.
Remember to listen to your body and don’t do anything that feels uncomfortable. Better yet, come to a yoga class if you have any questions or concerns.

Proper Standing Alignment – Start standing tall and relaxed with your feet hip width apart, shoulders relaxed and head resting comfortably over the shoulders. Remain in this posture for 6 – 8 easy breaths.

Warrior Pose – Step the left foot forward – your right foot will turn out naturally – and square your pelvis facing forward. As you inhale, raise your arms overhead (if comfortable) and bend your left knee so it is directly over the ankle. As you exhale, lower the arms and straighten the left knee. Repeat 3 – 4 times, then stay in the Warrior for 6 – 8 breaths. Repeat the same sequence on the other side.

Standing Forward Bend – Start in proper standing alignment (you may want to skip this pose if your back is sore from bending over in the garden). As you exhale, hands remain at your sides and bend forward from the hips, knees soft. Relax your head and neck downward. As you inhale, press down into the soles of the feet and lift the chest to come up. Learn More
