Dawn Burnham
| |
Dawn moved to Maberly, Ontario in 1996 from London, England, with an incredible background in pottery. She studied fine arts at the Ontario College of Art and has a Master’s in Education from Queen’s University. Dawn has taught art at the Canterbury School of Fine Arts in Ottawa and the Ottawa High School of Commerce.
Dawn believes pottery should be beautiful and useful. Much emphasis is placed on visual qualities by the use of colour, form and surface textures that are as stimulating to see as to touch. For example, she creates exciting bowls in black with silver, and dark blue with red. Her dinnerware is not seen as the ‘family dinner set’ but friendly and informal. Inspiration is born from checking restaurants around the world, via the net, and looking at how food is plated, traditions, and people enjoying each other’s company.
All her dinnerware glazes are guaranteed safe, porcelain and stoneware blends are fired to 1100 degrees Celsius, and all are happy in dishwashers, microwaves and can be warmed in traditional ovens.

Ron and Barb Zimmerman, of Lakeside Pottery, have been creating unique stoneware pottery in their home studio at Niagara-on-the-Lake since 1989. Both graduates in Ceramics and Glass from Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, Barb also has an Honours BA in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario in London.
The peaceful and lush setting of their studio has influenced their work and their lives. Ron and Barb have formulated all their own glazes and designs which have evolved over the years into an expression truly their own, creating serving plates and bowls, tea pots, goblets and pitchers as well as their delectable fish-inspired plates. All their products are food, microwave and dishwasher safe. Their work is in shops, galleries and homes across North America and around the world.
When the Zimmerman’s are not creating in their studio, they are active in local arts organizations.

Melanie Collum
| |
As a diversion from commercial art training, Melanie Collum began producing pottery in the early 70’s, then established a studio in Guelph, Ontario in the early 80’s and has been producing pottery ever since. Melanie dares our cultural imagination with sensuous, hand-crafted porcelain designs that present images of women, animals and landscapes combined with symbols of sacred spirituality.
Riverbank Pottery’s designs incorporate Minoan, Greek and Celtic components with a modern interest in the female nude and sacred feminine principles. Plates, bowls and wall pieces provide the canvas for sensuous air-brushed designs in rich shades of purple, blue green and turquoise.
These beautiful pottery pieces are fully functional and safe for use in the microwave or dishwasher.
Each piece of Melanie’s pottery has a story and a meaning. They are a daily reminder of our place in the unfolding dream; they challenge our expectations about function, art and spirit and become part of our daily life. Eat, pray, celebrate.
